I shot the second series of portraits for the Gun’s Up! book on Saturday. The focus, this time, was on the Cott V, a crew who have rowed together for five years straight for Cottesloe SLSC.

For evidence of the bonds of friendship and mateship that is forged through rigorous sport, one need not look further than these lads. Sweep Jeff Burling (Burlo), whom I’ve photographed with his father Colin, is a veteran of the club; his crew comprises of blokes who are steadfast mates. Rowers Alex Davies and Jay Parkin are housemates, and Alex’s best mate, Paul Bossong, is 3-seat in Cott V. Jarrad Dorey wraps up the quartet of rowers. Alex himself is an up and coming sweep, having claimed a title as a first year sweep.
These boys are the next generation of surf rowing legends of the WA coast!
The easygoing good humour between these blokes was evident during the shoot, with a great deal of paying out to be had while the blokes fronted the camera!
My thanks to Alex who organised this shoot for the book: the boys handled it well, resulting in a lot of laughs, but awesome portraits!
