Do you have a passion for portrait photography, but struggle with balancing lighting, exposure, poses and backgrounds? Come and learn how to take great outdoor portraits without the fuss of flashes, strobes or artificial light. This hands-on practical workshop is all about how you can make use of natural light to take gorgeous portraits!

Working with our model, you’ll learn about:

• nailing the right exposure for natural light portraits
• finding the right light for outdoor portraits
• positioning your portrait subject in relation to available light
• controlling subject to background focus
• posing your subject
• using a reflector
• finding and using natural reflectors
• composing portraits.

Join us in an afternoon of learning, shooting and laughing as we show you the top tips and tricks of the trade in obtaining natural light portraits with that “Wow” factor.

Note: Participants need to have a basic familiarity with shooting on Manual Exposure. You need to be able to:

• Set your Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO manually
• Select and set your exposure metering mode on your DSLR (evaluative metering, centre-weighted metering, spot metering)

I recently did a course on Natural Light Portraiture with Seng. Apart from providing technical details of camera settings, subject framing, looking for the light source etc, Seng eloquently explained the dynamics between subject and photographer in order to get the captures you are after. I would highly recommend the course to anyone wanting to take their photography to the next level, be it the enthusiast or the person wanting to get into photography professionally, and I’m sure even the current professionals would learn a lot (Ken Roxburgh)
