The unique setting of the Pinnacles Desert and the sand dunes of Cervantes have been a photographer’s mecca for decades. Now you can discover the magic of this landscape with us on a weekend workshop devoted to teaching you how to photograph and create stunning images of the Pinnacles and pristine sand dunes.

You’ll be led by photographers Greg Perry, Seng Mah and David Nicholls as you explore the landscape with the view of developing your creative skills in landscape photography. Find out what accessories you need to photograph landscapes and learn how to use them effectively. Discover how to compose, expose and shoot this dramatic landscape, and then post-process your photographs into stunning images in a session dedicated to post-processing with Photoshop in Cervantes.

This workshop will take you step by step through the image making process, from image capture on location to creative post-production using dodging and burning, high dynamic range processing and panoramic stitching. You will:

  • Photograph the sand dunes in the afternoon and learn how to capture the textures and line detail of this impressive dune system
  • Visit the Pinnacles at night to photograph its unearthly landscape in long exposure under the light of a full moon.
  • Practice painting the Pinnacles with light — exploring the effects of a range of light sources including torches, strobes and gels in long exposure photography.
  • Shoot the Pinnacles at sunrise and learn how to take exposure bracketed photographs for high dynamic range (HDR) images.
  • Compose and shoot for dramatic perspectives and to create panoramas.
  • Learn to control glare and saturate colours using a circular polarising filter.
  • Use Photoshop to create high dynamic range images, panoramic stitches and fine art landscapes using dodging and burning techniques.
