Tour Highlights

Day 1 and 2: Stirling Ranges and Bluff Knoll

Road to Bluff Knoll

Your Great Southern Photography Tour begins with your pick up from Perth in the morning and transfer to the Stirling Ranges.

Rising out of the stark landscape of wheat fields and salt flats, these magnificent ranges and their undulating ridges are the centrepiece of the region. The jewel in the crown of the Stirling Ranges is Bluff Knoll, one of the most recognisable peaks in the ranges, often shrouded in low-hanging cloud or mist to create an ethereal centrepiece for photographers. The surrounding area presents many locations for photography and we will be maximising our time here by shooting Bluff Knoll and the Ranges from a number of different vantage points and at sunset and sunrise.

Day 3 and 4: Albany

Salmon Holes, Albany
Salmon Holes Sunrise
Little Beach
Point King

From the Stirling Ranges, we journey to Albany in the heart of the Great Southern, with a stopover at a local winery in the Porongorups to savour some of the cool climate wines produced in this region.

Albany is nestled into the northern edge of Princess Royal Harbour in King George Sound. The area around Albany is surrounded by large bays, inlets, peninsulas and islands, with the open Great Southern Ocean battering the epic cliff faces. The beaches near Albany are spectacular with pure white, talcum powder sand, and boulder-sized rocks that sit right on the water’s edge.

Our focus in Albany will be on coastal landscapes — from the peaceful surrounds of Whaler’s Cove and Little Beach, to the rugged show of the ocean’s force at The Gap and The Natural Bridge, Salmon Holes and Sandpatch. We will also catch the sunrise at Point King, where stands the stone remnants of a lighthouse keeper’s cottage.

Albany is also known for its great food and beverages and we’ll be dining and drinking well during our stay here.

Day 5 and 6: Denmark

Green Pool at Denmark
Elephant Rocks Cove in Moonlight
William Bay Coastline

A short drive from Albany takes us to picturesque Denmark, where we’ll find splendid coastlines, sandy beaches and monolithic rocks with the most amazing textures — the perfect subjects to add interest to our images.

We’ll spend sunrises and sunsets photographing some of the most beautiful locations in Denmark: Elephant Rocks, Green Pool, Madfish Bay, Lights Beach; and we will also explore the stark landscapes to be found in Wilson Inlet. Denmark is also known for its forest interior, and we will explore the old karri forests of the region.

Our photography tour wraps up in Denmark with a group dinner (included in the price of this tour) where we will savour the great food and beverages of the region before returning to Perth.
