Athens (Days 1 – 2)
Settle into Athens and immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of this historic city. You’ll be staying in the Plaka, a charming district of cobbled lanes and streets, where modern Greece merges with its ancient and medieval history. Filled with shops, tavernas, cafes and restaurants, the Plaka is the perfect place to get a feel for Greece at the start of your journey.
Our time in Athens focuses on exploring its rich history. A private guided tour will bring you to iconic sites where you’ll come face to face with Ancient Greek history. Begin with a morning visit to the Acropolis, where you’ll have the chance to photograph the Parthenon and other iconic ruins. Capture the intricate details of ancient Greek architecture against the backdrop of the modern city.
Journey to Cape Sounio for a stunning photo session at the Temple of Poseidon. This magnificent temple, perched on a cliff overlooking the Aegean Sea, offers breathtaking views and opportunities for dramatic compositions.
Pause for a photo stop at Syntagma Square to capture the Changing of the Guards—a quintessentially Greek moment that adds a touch of quirky tradition to your photography in Athens.
As the sun begins to set, head to Philopappou Hill for a sunset shoot. This location offers one of the best views of the Acropolis, bathed in golden light as the city transitions from day to night. It’s the perfect opportunity to capture Athens in its most magical hour.
Monemvasia (Days 3 – 4)
We leave bustling Athens for the rugged Peloponessus, a scenic journey by private coach that will take us through regions framed by orchards and mountains. Our destination is the village of Gefira, the gateway to Monemvasia, the impressive massif that stands out of the sea on which is perched the Venetian town of the same name.
Our time in Gerfira and Monemvasia will be filled with sunset and sunrise shoots along the coast and in the Venetian town, with plenty of time to explore, walk and capture beautiful scenes of the fishing village and medieval town.
We will spend a day exploring Monemvasia, wandering down its cobbled streets, discovering hidden corners and photographic gems in our search for striking compositions that communicate the essence and story of this incredible place.
Mystras (Day 5)
We depart Monemvasia for Mystras, where the well-preserved ruins of Byzantine Greece scatter about rolling hills covered with olive groves and terraces. Mystras is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a treasure trove for photographers, whether you’re capturing the rugged landscapes of the hills dotted withmedieval Byzantine churches, palaces or monasteries, or photographing the evocative and hauntngly beautiful interiors of Byzantine churches.
In the afternoon, we take a leisurely walk to the quiet and charming village of Parorio, a picturesque location known for its natural springs and tranquil environment. Parorio offers the perfect setting for us to capture the serene beauty of small Greek villages.
Nafplio (Days 6-7)
Nafplio, the pearl of the Peloponessus, is an absolutely charming town and the perfect location for a mid-tour sojourn. The old town is impossibly beautiful, with cobbled streets, lanes and squares lined with beautiful Venetian buildings. Its Venetian Harbour and Lido (sea swimming pools) will serve as our sunset and sunrise locations, as we capture scenes and views leading to the remarkable island fortress of Bourtzi. For those who enjoy some physical activity, we will also explore Arkonafplia and the steps leading to the Fortress of Palmidi to photograph Nafplio from on high. Other guests may choose to relax a little in Nafplio and enjoy the variety of delicious meals and drinks on offer, or to partake in a bit of retail therapy in the myriad of boutiques and shops in the old town.
Delphi (Day 8)
We depart Nafplio for the hills of Delphi, a location that has captivated the imagination of poets, artists and, now, photographers. Our visit to the Delphi Archaeological Site (also known as “the navel of the world” in ancient times) gives us plenty to photograph: from the majestic Temple of Apollo to the ancient theatre or the Tholos of Delphi. We have timed our visit in the afternoon to allow us to capture the setting in golden afternoon light.
The Zagorohoria (Day 9 – 10)
We leave sacred Delphi, bound for the remote and breathtaking region of Zagorohoria, nestled deep in the Pindus Mountains in the north of Greece. The scenery transitions to lush forests and dramatic peaks as we travel and we will base ourselves in the village of Aristi, surrounded by the rugged beauty of the region.
Here in the Zagorohoria, our photography pivots towards landscapes. It is a land of deep gorges and crevasses, the most famous of all being Vikos Gorge. It is also a region riven by rivers across which curved stone bridges span. The gorge and bridges will form the focus of our photography as we spend sunrises and sunsets here photographing these unique landscapes. We will also take the opportunity to explore some of the picturesque stone villages that dot this region, where stone buildings of quarried mountain stone seem to meld with the mountainous settings.
Meteora (Day 11 – 12)
We depart Aristi and travel to the awe-inspiring landscape of Meteora, where our home-base is the village of Kastraki. Set in the foot of Meteora’s towering rock formations, Kastraki is the perfect base for exploring Meteora.
We will spend out sunrises and sunsets here photographing the incredible monasteries for which Meteora is famous for. The word “Meteora” is derived from the Greek for “suspended in the air” and when you set your eyes on these structures precariously balanced on the top of sandstone plateaus and pillars, you will understand the aptness of the region’s name. We will also visit a couple of monasteries to experience what life within is like (note that photography may not be permitted in some sections within the monasteries).
Return to Athens (Day 13)
On the final day of this tour, we begin our journey back to Athens, enjoying the scenic drive through Greece’s diverse landscapes as we make our way back to the bustling capital.
