This workshop is aimed at photographers who have just started using a Digital SLR (DSLR) and who would like to learn more about their camera, its features and functions. If you’ve been taking photographs with your DSLR on the green “Auto” setting, and have always wondered how you could gain greater control over your DSLR, then this workshop is for you.

The special “Father’s Day Edition” of our popular DSLR photography workshop will focus on giving Dads the DSLR skills required to take the photos that Dads like – kids, family, sports and action. In completing this workshop, you will gain confidence in using your camera and controlling it to take creative photographs.

This workshop includes a shoot with a model in Fremantle, where you will have the opportunity to put what you have learned into practice.

What you will learn:

  • Adjusting your viewfinder for maximum clarity.
  • How to hold your DSLR for optimum hand-held stabilisation.
  • Managing image stabilisation
  • Choosing the right lens for the right occasion.
  • Using the right focal length for the right shot.
  • Effective use of auto-focus.
  • Using focus lock.
  • Using continuous-focus to photograph moving subjects.
  • Controlling depth of field using aperture.
  • Controlling shutter speed.
  • Matching ISO settings for different lighting conditions.
  • Avoiding camera shake blur.
  • Using white balance presets to ensure correct colour cast in your photographs.
  • Reading and interpreting the historgram in your image preview.
  • Using exposure compensation when shooting in difficult lighting situations.
  • Using your on-camera flash effectively.
