Impressionist Photography – Intentional Camera Movement Workshop
A fresh and creative way to photograph the world around you!
Dates:
8 February (Saturday): SOLD OUT
22 February (Saturday): Places still available
Duration: 10.30am – 12noon Price: $65 Instructor: Seng Mah Maximum participants: 12. Location: Fremantle
Pre-requisite: You’ll gain the most out of this workshop if you already have an understanding of shooting in Manual Exposure and also own a neutral density filter of ND32 or ND64.
Henri Cartier-Bresson is attributed to have coined the phrase: “sharpness is a bourgeoise concept”, and we will be taking this sentiment to the next level in this workshop.
Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) photography seeks to create artistic impressions of a scene, rather than capturing it in full sharpness. ICM is about deliberately using camera movement and a slower shutter speed to create artistic impressions of a scene or place.
In this workshop, you will learn about combining slow shutter speeds and different methods of camera movement to create impressionistic representations of the world that you capture with your camera. Our focus will be on:
Understand the way light falls in a scene and how to use this in combination with specific camera movement techniques.
Using ND (neutral density) filters to deliberately slow your shutter speed.
The effect of different shutter speeds on creating impressionistic depictions of the scene.
Using and combining different movements to create different effects in ICM.
The role of colour in ICM image making.
Composing ICM images.
Get ready to capture the world around you like never before!
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
An interchangeable lens camera (mirrorless or DSLR) with a lens that can close down to at least f/16.
A lens that covers approximately 24-70mm focal length (24-105mm and similar is also suitable).
An ND filter — preferably ND64, but you can also work with an ND32 or ND400.
To ensure that everyone has time to learn and get individual attention from your instructor, we are limiting this workshop to 12 participants. Don’t miss out!
