Visual Communication for Photographers

Join award-winning professional photographer, Diana Andersen, for an eye-opening workshop that will show you how to make your photographic images say more and do more for viewers!

Visual Communication for Photographers

Level: All Levels
Date: Saturday 27th November 2021
Cost: $200
Instructor: Diana Andersen
Location: The Bunker Gallery, Team Digital (5 Coolgardie Terrace, East Perth)
Maximum participants: 10 (1 seat left)

Visual language is older than any other written or spoken language, and it is universally understood by most. It is why we can all understand emojis and visual warnings and tell whether someone is happy or sad, regardless of what language we speak and where we are in the world. The good news is that we all know the language. We learn as we grow, and it inherently becomes part of how we respond to, and interpret, visual stimuli including photographs.

Regardless of whether you are shooting animals, people, scapes or even abstract, this workshop will step you through the creative process of seeing your story, using visual language in your imagery to communicate, and making the right choices when shooting, and in post-production.

You’ll learn the principles of visual communication — the key elements that help convey meaning to and engage responses from viewers — and how they can affect your choices when shooting. Discover how composition, scale, space, framing, lines, colour, contrast and more can make a major impact in your photographic image-making.

You’ll also join Diana in an interactive photo shoot to discuss and practise what you have learned. You’ll be making your camera setting choices based on what you want to photograph and the stories you want to tell.

Finally, in a separate session to this workshop, you will join Diana in a Zoom session to discuss the role of post-processing in image-making. In this session, you will be asked to select one of your images from the photo shoot and discuss ways to enhance this image in post-production.

This workshop is limited to only 10 participants to ensure that everyone has time with Diana. If you’re a photographer who is looking for new ways to see and to communicate through your photographs, then don’t miss this workshop!
