My Favourite Images from 2023
This year has been a year of travel, particularly to India, and it’s not surprising that images taken in India feature large in the selection. India has always held a very special place in my heart — for photography but also for sublime and poignant travel experiences. I find an energy and grace in the people of India that really resonates with me, and I want to capture this in my photographs.
This year has also been the year that I made the decision to focus more on photography tours. I’ve discovered that I enjoy sharing the joys of travel photography with others. I thus made the decision to focus more on travel. The workshops will still be here — they just won’t run as frequently as before, and the ones we run will concentrate more on lighting, portraiture and photographic retreats.
When I trawled through hundreds of images taken this year to select my favourites, I took on a trip down memory lane and was reminded of the many moments and instances when I took the photographs. The images brought me back there — to the people and the moments I photographed them, to the landscape and the emotions I felt as I beheld and photographed them.
Photography is about image making, but it is also about memory. Of people, places and experiences.
I select these photographs more so because of what they evoke in me as images but also for what they remind me of the time I took them.
I hope you enjoy viewing them.
