This fully escorted tour includes your accommodation, land transportation, in-field guidance and tuition and all national park permits, so you can focus on what’s important — photography! It’s a great way to enjoy the beauty of Tasmania in a hassle-free way, thus allowing you to concentrate on what you love best: photography and image-making! We’ll cover a great deal of Tasmania on this tour – from the East Coast to Cradle Mountain Country and all the way to the absolutely amazing and pristine West Coast, before wrapping up in Hobart and the Tasman Peninsula. Can we do this all in eight days? You bet!

We’ll be living and breathing landscape photography on this tour — sunrises and sunsets spent shooting, time in between exploring the environment and looking for unique shots, and down time talking photography and image-editing techniques and tips. It will be the best eight days of you’ve experienced in a long time, doing what you love and mingling with like-minded landscape lovers!

  • You have a good level of fitness ie. you are able to hike on a trail while carrying your own camera bag and tripod for anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour to get to photographic locations.

Tour Highlights

Day 1–2: East Coast and the Bay of Fires

Bay of Fires
Tasmanian rainforest

We begin with your pick up in Hobart and head to St Helens and the Bay of Fires, where red-crusted boulders tumble down to the aquamarine wash of the sea. This dramatic landscape was made for photography and you’ll love capturing its stunning colours, mood and light. We will also spend the day exploring the lush rainforests of the East Coast, where you’ll find “secret spots” to photograph forest creeks fringed by moss-covered rocks and soaring tree ferns!

Day 2: Chasing Waterfalls

Liffey Falls
Autumn colours

We traverse Tasmania, heading into its heartland to enjoy shooting at the multi-tiered Liffey Falls, one of the most beautiful and photogenic waterfalls in Tasmania. We will be staying at Launceston on the north of the island, which puts us within easy driving distance of a range of remarkable photographic attractions.

Day 3-4: Cradle Mountain National Park

Cradle Mountain
Dove Lake rocks
Pencil Pine Falls
Waldheim Village

From Launceston, we head to Cradle Mountain National Park, where we spend two days chasing light in one of this country’s most pristine and magnificent wilderness landscapes. You will be exploring and shooting at sunrise and sunset, with a spot of astrophotography thrown in, weather and conditions permitting. We will also explore the waterfalls trail and the highland rainforests around Waldheim Village.

Day 5-6: Strahan and the Gordon River

Nelson Falls
Strahan docks

We head further West through the Franklin-Gordon Rivers country, to the town of Strahan at historic Macquarie Harbour. This is a place of deep forests and serene waters, the home of the famed Tasmanian Huon Pine. Macquarie Harbour has a storied past in Australian convict history — it’s pure wilderness that’s stunningly beautiful, yet with a savage past. We will be photographing in and around Strahan, as well as covering the hinterland on the look out for epic waterfalls such as Montezuma Falls, Horsetail Falls and Nelson Falls, where you’ll soak in the splendour of these incredible cascades and the rainforests surrounding them.

Day 7-8: Hobart, Mount Field National Park and the Tasman Peninsula

Horseshoe Falls
Russell Falls
Tessellated Pavement

Our two days in Hobart will be dedicated to exploring the incredible Mount Field National Park, exploring its temperate climate rainforests, waterfalls and lakes. On the last morning of the tour, we shoot the sunrise at the magical Tessellated Pavement in the Tasman Peninsula, an area of coast where rocks have been carved into an amazing pavement like structure by forces of wind and sea.

You’ll finish the tour with memory cards full of stunning landscapes and new friendships formed from spending time with like-minded people. What a way to end an amazing photographic experience in Tasmania!

“I loved every minute of it. It was really well planned to make the best use of light and the fantastic scenery Tasmania has to offer.” (Janie Gillies Tour Guest)
