The Dolomites Photography Scouting Tour

The Dolomites… so unlike any other mountain ranges on Earth, a landscape so dramatic it feels as if you have stepped into another world.
I’ll be embarking on a photography scouting trip to the Dolomites in October 2027, and there are limited spaces for experienced photographers to join me.
A scouting trip is not a photography tour per se. You’ll participate in my itinerary and shoot where I shoot; but you will need to be a self-directed photographer during our photography excursions.
To reflect this, the price of this tour is much discounted from a normal photography tour price. You will join a very small group of photographers, which makes for faster and easier travel.
Unlike my full photography tours which have been extensively researched and scouted by me, a scouting trip means that it’s my first time there.
You will also need to be comfortable with the fairly intensive and rigorous photography schedule. This means very early starts to get to locations for the light; and later finishes to shoot into the blue hour. We prioritise photography over other travel luxuries.
If you enjoy the thrill of exploration and discovery, and the pure joy of seeing magnificent landscapes for the first time, then this scouting trip is for you.

Scouting Schedule
Day 1: Pick up from Venice International Airport and transfer to Ortisei for two nights.
Day 2: Full day to explore the region around Ortisei, including photographing the jagged Odle Peaks. We explore mountain bases including Passo Sella or Passo Gardena for the dramatic scenery.
Day 3: We travel to Passo delle Erbe, photographing the iconic churches in the Val di Funes on the way. We shoot the San Giovanni church located in the middle of the meadow with the Odle Mountains as its backdrop. We then head to Santa Maddalena for an elevated view of the church and village. Overnight in Passo delle Erbe.
Day 4: We spend the day at Passo delle Erbe, where the landscape is stunning and dominated by the mighty Sass di Puttia peak. We are here in autumn, so burnished gold colours will paint this landscape.
Day 5: We travel southwards towards high mountain passes, to Passo Falzarego and take the cable car to the remarkable Cinque Torri. We stay a lodge here in order to photograph the rock formations at sunset.
Day 6: We shoot the mountains in the morning and travel to the last destination of the trip: Cortina d’Ampezzo, with stops en route to photograph the scenic mountain passes at Passo Giau.
Day 7: We have a full day exploring and photographing the mountain views at Cortina d’Ampezzo. Weather permitting, we can take cable cars to nearby mountain huts for incredible views.
Day 8: Depending on flight schedules, there is time for a sunrise shoot before we depart for Venice, where I will journey on to Zagreb to run the Slovenia photography tour. If you are also doing the Slovenia photography tour, you’ll be on the same flight. Otherwise, your tour ends in Venice.
Scouting Tour Price
Tour price: €5950 inclusive of single supplement (you save around €1100 compared to the full priced tour).

- Three gondola / chair lift rides
- Entrance fees to national parks
- All local taxes.
Exclusions:
- Flight to/from Venice
- Comprehensive international travel insurance (compulsory)
- Gratuities
- Personal expenses (eg. laundry, wifi, eSim etc)
- Transfers and transport outside of the dates of the scouting tour
- Meals outside of B/L/D provided during the scouting tour.

A deposit of €1500 is required to hold your place on this scouting tour. Deposits are due on reservation, with the balance paid by 10 May 2027. Note that deposits are fully refunded if the tour is cancelled by Venture Photography.
