Join us for a creative exploration of the back streets and quieter corners of historic Fremantle, camera in tow. This photowalk is about learning to see: finding the quirky, idiosyncratic, beautiful and unexpected visual moments that are easily missed when you’re simply passing through.

We’ll move beyond the obvious vistas and urban abstracts and start paying closer attention to the details around us. It’s about becoming more mindful of your surroundings and training your eyes to see. Because once you start looking differently, even familiar places can reveal something new.

As photographer Elliott Erwitt put it so wonderfully: “Photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place…”

That’s what this photowalk is all about.

WHAT TO BRING

Your camera. An interchangeable-lens mirrorless or DSLR camera is ideal, but you can also join us with a fixed-lens camera, point-and-shoot or smartphone.
A lens around 24–105mm (or full-frame equivalent) is recommended.
A fully charged battery and plenty of space on your memory card.
Water and comfortable walking shoes. We’ll be covering a fair bit of ground.

WHERE

The photowalk begins and ends at Princess May Park in Fremantle, next to Clancy’s Fish Pub. We’ll explore the back and side streets around this part of Fremantle, looking for those easily overlooked photographic moments.
