Have you always wanted to do studio photography but are not sure how to use studio lights effectively? Do you feel a bit daunted by the technical aspects of lighting and exposure control when shooting in the studio? Would you like to learn how to make the most of studio lighting and find out how to push your studio lighting further?

Join us for Studio Lighting Fasttrack, a hands-on workshop that will show you how to set up, use and control studio lighting for pitch-perfect exposure and creative studio photography. You will progress from a single light set up to a four light set up, learn how to make use of a range of different lighting modifiers, gels and reflectors, and light for high key and low key images.

Studio Lighting Fasttrack will have you learning by doing. You will participate in a series of themed studio shoots (portraiture/fashion, glamour, fitness/physique) and learn how to lighting is used for each kind of studio photography.

This one-day workshop will give you the skills to:

• Set up and control up to four studio lights: learn about lighting groups, channels and setting up lights as optical slaves
• Make use of modeling lights to assess lighting direction
• Use the flash meter to obtain an exposure reading
• Expose for studio lighting
• Create key and fill lighting
• Create and use soft light and hard light
• Apply lighting ratios to create key, fill, accent (kicker) and background lighting
• Select and use lighting modifiers for specific lighting effects
• Use gels for creative colour effects
• Light studio portraits for low key and high key portraits
• Light for group photography in the studio by using the inverse square law
• Set up and make safe and effective use of a studio space
• Work with models and sitters in a studio setting.

NOTE:

• You will need to have a basic familiarity in shooting with your camera on Manual Exposure, ie. you can set your Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO values manually on your camera.
• Sony DSLR users will need a hotshoe adaptor in order to use the wireless triggers in this workshop. Contact your local camera store if you need to purchase one.
