Nepal Gallery – Between Peaks and People

Photographing Nepal is a very immersive experience —one where faith, culture and daily life in a land where old and new interweave tell stories of people and place, history and presence.

I have just returned from a photography scouting trip to Nepal, a journey that took me from the heaving streets of Kathmandu’s Thamel and Ason districts to the timeless squares of historic Bhaktapur and Patan, onwards to the mountain views in Bandipur and Dhampus, before finishing in the picturesque lakeside town of Pokhara, where mountain reflections shimmer over the surface of beautiful Phewa Thal.

Nepal is a land that crosses boundaries of faith: here you will find Hindu shrines and temples and Buddhist stupas and gompas. The most famous Hindu site of worship is Pashupatinath on the banks of the Bagmati River, where holy sadhus congregate and where cremations offer a dramatic counterpoint to the elegant tranquility of its temples. The Buddhist stupas of Boudhanath and Swayambunath offer scenes of perambulation, prayer and meditation, under the watchful gaze of the eyes of the Buddha.

This gallery is a collection of those moments—mostly street scenes, moments of daily life in cities and villages, spontaneous portraits, riveting landscapes and the textures of places that felt both ancient and alive. I embarked on my own perambulations, searching for life and light, drawn to the presence of people and their routines, looking for compositions that fill a moment with the weight of story and character.

This gallery is a reflection of how I saw and photographed Nepal—not just through scenery, but through faces, gestures, and fleeting intersections of light and life.

I’ll be planning a photography tour to Nepal in either late 2026 or early 2027. If you’re keen to discover why Nepal is a photographic drawcard and to experience it for yourself, then get in touch.
